Quick answer

A CIDB Grade G3 registration lets a company undertake construction projects worth up to RM1,000,000. The company needs at least RM50,000 paid-up capital and at least one Malaysian technical personnel with a CIDB-recognised diploma, and renewal requires 20 CCD points for each year of registration. Registration is issued by CIDB under Act 520 and typically takes 1–3 weeks.

Overview

Under the Construction Industry Development Board Act 1994 (Act 520), any company that carries out or completes construction works in Malaysia must be registered with CIDB. Registration is by grade — G1 to G7 — and the grade caps the value of the single project you may undertake.

Grade G3 is the working grade for established small-to-mid contractors: interior fit-out and renovation firms, M&E subcontractors, landscaping and civil works companies. It lets you undertake projects of up to RM1,000,000 — the band where most commercial fit-out, office renovation and private building works sit.

Without CIDB registration, commercial and developer clients cannot legally award you the job, and main contractors cannot put you on their subcontractor list. Many capable firms lose tenders for exactly this reason, not for lack of skill.

Who needs this

  • Interior design & renovation firms moving into commercial projects
  • M&E, civil and landscaping subcontractors asked for a CIDB certificate by main contractors
  • New construction companies ready to meet the G3 capital and technical-personnel threshold
  • G1 / G2 contractors upgrading because their projects now exceed RM500,000

Documents you need to prepare

Company

  • SSM company profile (e-Info) and Section 14 / Notice of Registration
  • Company Constitution, if adopted
  • Latest 3 months' company bank statements, or audited accounts, showing paid-up capital of at least RM50,000
  • Business address proof — tenancy agreement or title, with photos of the office and signboard

Directors & shareholders

  • IC or passport copy of every director and shareholder
  • Contact details of the person in charge

Technical personnel

  • IC of at least one Malaysian technical personnel
  • CIDB-recognised Diploma (or Technical Certificate, where accepted) in a construction-related field
  • EPF (KWSP) contribution statement proving the person is employed by the company
  • If paid-up capital is below RM50,000, increase it first — we can handle the SSM lodgement as part of the same engagement.
  • Each worker who enters a site also needs their own CIDB Green Card; the company grade does not cover individuals.

Frequently asked questions

Can a newly incorporated company apply for G3?

Yes, provided it meets the RM50,000 paid-up capital and technical-personnel requirements at the time of application.

Does G3 let us bid for government projects?

Government works additionally require the SPKK certificate, and Bumiputera-reserved projects require STB. We handle both.

What happens when the certificate expires?

You can no longer undertake new works. Renewal requires 20 CCD points for G3 — plan training before the expiry date.
