Who is Formosa 福尔摩莎?

FORMOSA Beauty Academy (福尔摩莎) is a Taiwanese beauty brand — a beauty & spa academy and global B2B beauty platform. Its Malaysian entity, FORMOSA BEAUTY INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY SDN. BHD. (Company No. 202501021128 / 1622541-D), runs a beauty & spa centre (Pusat Kecantikan) and training academy (Pusat Latihan) in Taman Mutiara, Kuala Lumpur — its first shopfront in Malaysia.

Its services span eyebrow embroidery, manicure, lash extensions, facial treatments, makeup and meridian therapy. Entering the Malaysian market, Formosa needed eye-catching, fully-compliant signage and the city-hall approvals to open. They came to ONEKEY BIZ to handle it all.

The challenge

A signboard isn't just a signboard

In Kuala Lumpur, putting up a shop signboard and opening the doors involves more approvals than most owners expect.

🎨

Signage that sells

A new beauty academy needs a striking, on-brand shopfront — designed, printed and installed properly so it draws customers in.

📝

DBP language endorsement

Before a signboard can be approved, its wording must pass Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) for correct Malay-language use.

🏛️

DBKL licences

The city hall (DBKL) issues the signboard permit and the business licence — both required before the shop can legally trade.

The solution

What ONEKEY BIZ delivered

✓ Done 01

Signboard — design, print & install

We designed Formosa's shopfront signage, printed it and installed it on site — a polished beauty-centre signboard plus a training-centre banner.

✓ LULUS 02

DBP signboard endorsement

We obtained the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) language endorsement for the signboard wording — the prerequisite for the city-hall signboard permit.

✓ Approved 03

DBKL business licence

We prepared and lodged the application and obtained the DBKL (Kuala Lumpur City Hall) business licence — the shop is legally cleared to operate.

The process

How we got Formosa's shopfront open

A clear, four-step path from signboard to a fully licensed, ready-to-trade shopfront.

We design and print Formosa's shopfront signboard — an on-brand beauty-centre sign ready for endorsement and installation.

Step 2

DBP endorsement

The signboard wording is submitted to Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) and language-endorsed — the prerequisite for the city-hall permit.

Step 3

DBKL licence

We prepare and lodge the application and obtain the DBKL (Kuala Lumpur City Hall) business-premises licence for the shop.

FAQ

Signboard & business licence — frequently asked questions

Do I need approval to put up a shopfront signboard in Kuala Lumpur?
Yes. In Kuala Lumpur a shopfront signboard is not just a design job — the wording must first be language-endorsed by Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP), and the signboard itself must be permitted by the city hall (DBKL) before it can legally go up.
What is a DBP signboard language endorsement (Sijil Pengesahan Bahasa)?
It is a certificate from Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka confirming that a signboard's wording uses correct Malay language and complies with national language requirements. It is a prerequisite before the local council will approve the signboard permit.
What is a DBKL business licence and who needs it?
A DBKL business licence (Lesen Perniagaan) is issued by Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur. Any business operating from premises within Kuala Lumpur — including a retail shop or beauty centre — must hold one to trade legally.
Can a foreign or Taiwanese brand open a retail shop in Malaysia?
Yes. A foreign or Taiwanese brand can open a retail shop in Malaysia by setting up a local company and obtaining the required signboard endorsement and council business licence. ONEKEY BIZ handled exactly this for Formosa's first Kuala Lumpur shopfront.
Can ONEKEY BIZ handle the signboard, DBP endorsement and DBKL licence together?
Yes. ONEKEY BIZ delivers the whole shopfront end to end — designing, printing and installing the signboard, obtaining the DBP language endorsement, and preparing and lodging the DBKL business-licence application through to approval.
